God’s Promise Still Stands

The rainbow is God's promise

Genesis 8-11 Three Chapters of drama. God sends the flood because of sin, yet He is gracious. He always opens a door for cleansing of our sin. Are we aware of God working in our life when we are out of fellowship with Him? Even in our sinful state, God always has a promise to draw us back to Him. His promise still stands even though men have chosen to disparage of what is godly to elevate that which is ungodly. The rainbow shows His power and His love and promise to NEVER flood the earth again. As we see the rainbows, do we stop to praise Him for His power, His promise, and His provision?

Into this, we see that men know the commands of God but seek to usurp them and build a tower to heaven. God had said, go and be fruitful and multiply the earth. The NT reveals what God thinks of our works: “Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.” [1Cor 3:12]

God is so clear on His commands. Our prayer for today is that we may follow God’s ways and may our works be that which brings a sweet aroma to His nostrils.

Thunderstorms…Majesty and Grace

Psalm 29 Thunderstorms here in Texas are something to behold, but imagine if you were out in the wilderness with David and his sheep. David saw the power of the lightning and heard the power of the thunder. In a thunderstorm, we can see the trees sway under the control of the wind and the clouds race across the sky.   How far is the storm? They say you can count between the thunder and the lightning to know. The storm comes with power, and then as quickly as it happens, it recedes to the quiet and the fresh rain saturates the ground. As David sat out on the hillside with his sheep, he may have chosen this time of reflection about God.  Perhaps as he was sitting with the sheep, he reflected and recorded these words for us.

Truly God is majestic; He is sovereign, He is mighty. His voice is so powerful it can shatter the most towering cedar in Lebanon. He allows us a glimpse of His majesty in the thunder and lightning. And often God allows us to see the rainbow as a reminder of His grace. When the storm subsides, we are left to hear the quiet and smell the odor of the freshness it brings.

It is in the quiet we should stop and give Him praise for His protection, and acknowledge Him as Lord God Almighty, the one who is sovereign overall.

God’s Glory

The heavens declare the glory of the Lord

Psalm 19 The Heavens Declare the Glory of God!

The other night God graced us with a double rainbow! What a joy to see it and to remember the promise of God to never flood the earth again. The weather and the creation of God is an amazing picture of His holiness and majesty.  Perhaps you wake up in the early dawn when only the stars are evident, for the clouds obstruct the moon. However, stop and consider; even the moon is busy illumining the clouds to give us light.  But then all of life awakes with a roar as the sun awakens and illumines the sky from east to west, north to south! The psalmist envisioned it as a bridegroom ready to meet his bride! Truly Romans 1:20 is ever before us: God’s invisible attributes – his eternal power and divine nature – are seen by what has been created, so people are without excuse.

And yet, as David praises God for the wonder and beauty of God’s amazing creation, others will stop and worship the creation more than the Creator. That was one of the charges God made to the Israelites in exile as they came to inquire of Him. He reminded them that the idols of Egypt they so willingly put their trust in were not able to take them out of bondage, yet they closed their ears. So lovingly, He took them into the wilderness so they could see the marvel of His creation, and yet they refused to see.

Where are you this day? Are you in bondage in Egypt relying upon the wooden idols? Or are you in the wilderness viewing His creation that you may bow the knee to Him?
