9.29.24.Praise God Always

Psalm 106-108 The Long-suffering of God

No matter what we read in these psalms, the repeated theme is to praise the Lord. Why praise Him when we are suffering? Stop and consider this: God sends suffering to purge us of our iniquities and so we will recall what He has done in the past. He is ever patient with His rebellious children. God sends them food and water in the most challenging times and yet they, and us, refuse to give Him praise. Over and over God’s long-suffering is present. If that were us, we would not be so patient and our lives reveal that truth. We are, like the Israelites of old, impatient and ungrateful. Why are we so? We are like the trees that snap at the water that rushes against them and snaps them and we grouse and complain for the hardship. What is God saying?

God’s love and patience are ever before us but at some point, God will bring suffering into our lives so we may stop and rehearse His blessings and what He has done in the past. Stop today and praise God for what He has done.

Praising God

Worship God alone for He is Creator

Psalm 102 God is God

Day after day we read of those who have passed on into eternity, some to everlasting peace and some to everlasting torment. Some honor God in this lifetime and others deride Him, yet the truth remains about our God: “But You are the same, And Your years will not come to an end.” [Ps 102:27]

God is eternal and He is everlasting. It is because of this we stop and praise Him this day as we go to the houses of worship. The psalmist wrote in Ps 99 “Let them praise Your great and awesome name; Holy is He.” That is what I shall do today. I praise Him because He is God and there is no other. I praise Him for He has ordained my existence now and for all eternity. I praise Him for those I love who love God.

What shall you do today precious reader? Will God find you praising Him? I pray that this is true.

What is the point…?

Ps 107 What do you see when you look back at your life? Is a life filled with the pleasantness of the goodness of God, or do you see suffering? What is the point of each? When we are filled and see the hand of God of blessing, do we stop and praise Him? On the other hand, when we are suffering, do we also stop and praise God? What is the point of each?

To the one, it is a gift to the God we serve and bless and share that with others. It is God’s gift to others that we lift up and praise His Name. But, to the one who is suffering, how do we use that to glorify His Name? Do we stop and give Him praise or do we grumble and complain?

The psalmist looks back and sees where God has blessed, and he also sees where God has allowed suffering. What is the point of each? Each can be used to share His blessing, for good or bad. In either state, we are to offer Him praise and blessing.

The key is found in Ps 107:15 “Let them give thanks to the Lord for His lovingkindness and for the amazing things He has done for his people.’

The Doxology

Praising God, Son and Holy Ghost

Ps 148-150 In reading these last three chapters in Psalms, we recall what we learned as children, known as the Doxology sung after communion or at the beginning of service to set our minds and hearts to a mode of worship. The word doxology is made up of two Greek words: doxa and logos. Doxa means glory, splendor, or grandeur and logos means word or speaking.  It recalls The Lord’s Supper and this verse:  “after supper they sang a hymn and went out to the Mount of Olives.” [Matt 26:30]

Praise God from whom all blessings flow

(He is the source of our blessings recalling: Psa 133:2 It is like fine oil poured on the head, which flows down the beard—Aaron’s beard, and then flows down his garments.”

Praise Him, all creatures here below

Ps 148 reminds us that we are all created by Him and for Him so that we may bring Him glory.

Praise Him above the Heavenly host

Hebrews 1 is all about the angelic beings praising God and one day in glory we and the angels will be sitting around the throne praising God. Revelation 1 and beyond speaks to that.

Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost

The Godhead, the Triune God!

Amen, Amen, Amen, Amen

Today take some time out to sing the doxology to set your mind to praising God.
