Hump Day!

Micah 1 hump day2a

Micah 2 How does your worship on Sunday affect your weekday? Are you facing the blahs of ‘hump day?’ Are you weary and looking forward to the weekend?  The Israelites were no different and so Micah asks his audience is God’s patience dwindled or is it exhausted? He answers with these words from God: surely not! God is patient and longsuffering and He blesses those who choose to walk uprightly.

Uprightly has the meaning of one whose walk is marked by integrity. If you do a “rabbit trail” through the scriptures you find that principle over and over. In fact, if you read the entire 28th chapter of Deut you will see how God blesses those who choose this path. Also, the psalmist knew that principle: Ps. 18: 25-26; God proves Himself reliable to one who is blameless, Ps 25: 10 the Lord always proves faithful and reliable to those who follow the demands of his covenant.

So although today is “hump day,” be sure of this dear friends, God will continue to bless you who choose His ways 24/7, 365 days a year. Do not become weary in well-doing and remember that a man’s appearance reveals his heart. Hangest thou in there. Be faithful and see the hand of the Lord upon your life.

What do you believe about God?

Hosea 11 to 14 God is Goda

Hosea 11 to 14 God is dead! The world would have us buy into that phrase but Hosea emphatically states: God is the Lord! He is God and not a man. Samuel the prophet said these same words: “The Preeminent One of Israel does not go back on his word or change his mind, for he is not a human being who changes his mind.” [1Sam 15] Stop and think about those you know who are fickle and say yes when they mean no or the reverse. God is faithful to always be who He is! He is the Lord who brought Israel out of Egypt, He spoke to the prophets, He revealed Himself in visions, as He did to Ezekiel. He spoke in parables through His Son Jesus whom He sent to die for our egregious sins.

Hosea reminds Israel that they must not acknowledge anyone or anything but Him alone for there is no Savior besides Him! He will heal their waywardness and love them freely.

Hosea ends his writing by saying: Who is wise? Let him discern these things! Who is discerning? Let him understand them! For the ways of the Lord are right; the godly walk in them, but in them the rebellious stumble. It is as if we are reading Peter’s words: remember this beloved: whoever believes in him will never be put to shame. [1Peter 2]

God is alive! Do you believe this? Who is God to you?

The Voice and the Echo

Hebrews 13 voice and echo2God’s Word is true and timely. A reader asked for help in trusting and knowing God was with them. As we finish Hebrews the answer is before us: timely, for today as we finish Hebrews,
our answer is before us.

Vs 5: [God] has said, “I will never leave you and I will never abandon you …therefore: we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, and I will not be afraid. What can people do to me?

Again Ps 27 “The Lord is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear?” and Psalm 56:4 “in God I have put my trust, I will not fear what flesh can do to me” Continuing on to vs 11 “in God have I put my trust, I will not be afraid what man can do to me.” This concept is repeated again in Psalm 118:6 and Romans 8:31-39 and again in 2Tim 1:7. In John 14 Jesus promised to send them another comfort. Because we know that God’s Word is true and amen we can echo as the Hebrews author what “he hath said.” God told Joshua “as I was with Moses, I will be with you, I will not abandon you or leave you alone.”

We must not doubt or become faithless for God is true to His Word. When He says “I will,” He means it. We must then echo “I will trust and obey.” How simple is that?
