Praising God!

Psalm 13-15 Singing

The psalmist is singing because the Lord has vindicated him. I loved the MSG reading, “I am singing at the top of my lungs, I am so full of answered prayers.” Are we singing today as we enter our houses of worship? When we sing, do we ponder all He has done for He is a faithful conqueror? Let the god of this world take note: we sing because the true God has been faithful to answer all our prayers. Get thee behind me, Satan for your time is short and today we choose to honor the Christ who paid for my/our sin (s).

Focused on Praising God

Praising God Psalm 89

Psalm 89 Psalm 23, the Doxology and the Apostles creed were part of the liturgy in the churches not too long ago as a way of focusing the parishioners toward God.

Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Ethan the Ezrahite was focused. He said he would sing continually about the Lord’s faithful deeds, and he would share those thoughts with future generations. Think about that! Centuries ago, Ezra wrote, and today we read his words of exaltation to God in word and song. “The heavens also praise his amazing deeds as well your faithfulness in the angelic assembly.” [Ps 89:5] At the birth of our Savior, the vast, heavenly army appeared with the angels, praising God.  We don’t need to be an angel to glorify God. Enjoy Ezra’s thoughts and claim them as your own, for his words of praise can be yours as well.  Ezra reminds us that if the angelic assembly takes time to praise God, we should do that as well.  Job referenced this same thought: When the morning stars sang in chorus and all the sons of God shouted for joy. [Job 38:7]

Habakkuk reminded himself that “though the fig tree does not bud…and the fields produce no food…yet I will rejoice in the Lord.” [Hab 3:17-18] In Paul’s day he reminded the Colossians, “exhort one another with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with grace in your hearts to God.” [Col 3:16]

Today spend time praising God for who He is and for what He has done! What is your favorite hymn or praise song that you sing to give God praise?

Ps 8 “O Lord…How Majestic is Your Name!”

Psalm 8 begins and ends with the same phrase: “O Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth,” “We need not wonder at this, for no heart can measure, no tongue can utter, the half of the greatness of Jehovah. The whole creation is full of his glory and radiant with the excellency of his power; his goodness and his wisdom are manifested on every hand.” [Spurgeon]

And yet even though God is majestic and full of splendor, it is the infants and children who understand His majesty more often than those who mature and educated. The Pharisees were angry when the children were crying out in the temple courts “Hosanna to the Son of David,” and Jesus responded, quoting Psalm 8:2. “From the mouths of children and nursing babies, you have ordained praise” Is it your prayer to have such a childlike faith to offer praise as freely as these little ones to the Lord for His power, majesty, and splendor? David’s point was the same as the Apostle Paul’s words: “But God chose what the world thinks foolish to shame the wise, and God chose what the world thinks weak to shame the strong.” [ICor.]

Today may we offer praise to Jehovah for truly He is majestic and full of splendor. The heavens and all of creation resound with his work. “For since the creation of the world, his invisible attributes – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, because they are understood through what has been made. So people are without excuse.” [Rom 1] and that is why this statement should bring shudders to our soul: the young child of an atheist couple once asked his parents, “Do you think God knows we don’t believe in Him?” [Dr. Constable] Precious Child, yes, God knows for He is omniscient, omnipresent, and omnipotent.

Today may we meditate upon these words upon our lips: “O Lord, our Lord, How majestic is Your name in all the earth.”

How Well Do You Know Your A,B, C’s?

It seems that between Acts and Psalms we are being reminded daily of our need to praise God. Listen to the psalmist: 21:13 “We will sing and praise your power!” 22:3 “you sit as king receiving the praises of Israel.” And now the command is given by the earthly king  to and for the heavenly king: 22:23 “You loyal followers of the Lord, praise him!” 22:26 “Let those who seek his help praise the Lord!”

PrPsalm 21 and 22 praise dreamstimeaising the Lord is a reminder that God alone is sovereign and in control of our very being. Nothing comes across our path but what has been ordained by God and filtered through his fingertips. He desires that we stop and praise Him for what He has done and what He will do. For He is the Lord God ALMIGHTY, the BOUNTIFUL AND BLESSED Savior, He is CREATOR and we are created. He is the COURAGEOUS CHRIST who died for our sin and in doing so became our DELIVERER who is ETERNAL. He is FAITHFUL, He is GOD, He is HOLY, He is IMMUTABLE. Do you see the ABC pattern? Continue on starting with “J until you reach Z.” Let these words flow forth as you praise Him.

Stop and Praise Him for His goodness to you this day.
